AXA has launched an initiative to include domestic violence as a recognised risk within its home insurance policies in France.
For the first time, the insurer is offering emergency housing relocation for victims of domestic abuse, a service that aligns with their expertise in disaster rehousing.
To raise awareness, AXA has launched a national communication campaign, featuring TV ads, billboards and social media content.
The initiative focuses on the addition of “and domestic violence” to insurance policies with the aim sending a clear message that victims are not alone.
This campaign includes a two-minute video and a documentary offering an in-depth look at the victim support process.
After a launch in France, the AXA group is considering expanding into other countries.
Guillaume Borie, CEO of AXA France, said: “Protecting our policyholders from the risks they face is our core responsibility, and providing emergency rehousing in cases of flooding or fire is part of our mission.”
“With this expertise and our long-standing commitment to working alongside associations and public authorities in the fight against violence against women, we are evolving our insurance policies to leverage our knowledge in rehousing and support services for victims of domestic violence.”
Domestic violence is a pressing issue in France, with reported cases more than doubling between 2016 and 2023. Yet, many victims are unable to leave abusive households due to a lack of safe housing options.
AXA’s new policy addresses the gap in support for domestic violence victims by providing emergency rehousing for up to seven days – renewable if needed – along with legal, psychological and financial support through its subsidiary Juridica.
