Coinbase has partnered with Riot Games to bring crypto features and fan activations into the company’s global esports tournaments.
As the exclusive crypto exchange and blockchain partner for Riot Games’ official esports events, Coinbase will integrate crypto features into the League of Legends and VALORANT competitions.
This includes introducing new in-game segments, such as the first-ever “Econ Report” in VALORANT and “Gold Grind” in League of Legends, which offers viewers real-time insights into each game’s currency dynamics and how they shape team strategies.
Coinbase will also roll out a range of event activations, hospitality promotions and a giveaway featuring exclusive prizes, including the chance to win a trip for two to the VALORANT Champions Tour or League of Legends Worlds competition.
The partnership between Coinbase and Riot Games stems from the shared roots of esports and crypto as they are both digital-first communities built on innovation and a drive to disrupt the status quo.
While esports redefined the meaning of being an athlete, crypto is working to transform the financial system and expand economic freedom. Therefore, Coinbase and Riot Games share many of the same values, which has resulted in the partnership.
This partnership marks the latest addition to Coinbase’s growing roster of sports collaborations, adding to its existing ties with esports organisation Team Liquid, the WNBA and NBA, Aston Martin’s Formula One team and Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.
