RBC Global Asset Management has sponsored two of the CFA Institute’s university challenges, which aim to empower and equip the next generation of investment management professionals with essential skills.
Over the past month, the asset management division has supported student teams from Ontario universities competing in two challenges: ethics and research.
The CFA Institute research challenge is an annual global competition offering university students practical mentoring and in-depth training in financial analysis and professional ethics.
It aims to provide students with real-world experience by placing them in the role of a research analyst, where they are challenged to value a stock.
During the challenge, each student is tested on their analytical, valuation, report writing and presentation skills, gaining hands-on experience while taking on the role of a research analyst.
Meanwhile, the ethics challenge is designed to increase university students’ awareness of the ethical dilemmas they may encounter as future investment management professionals.
Student teams are given an ethics case to study and assess according to the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Professional Conduct. Each team then presents its analysis and recommendations to a panel of judges chosen by the hosting CFA Society.
Though the competition is global, with sub-regional, regional, and global events held across the Americas, Asia Pacific, and Europe, Middle East, and Africa regions, RBC sponsored universities in Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, and Victoria, Canada.
