Schroders has launched a multi-media internal communications campaign to empower colleagues to assess potential career progression pathways.
The “Shape Your Career” initiative is designed to nudge employees to “take control of their career” through a series of videos and written pieces that showcase the successful career progression of a range of colleagues across the asset manager.
Emma Holden, global head of human resources at Schroders told Financial Promoter that the company was keen to “change the narrative that progression is simply about moving upwards”.
“A career is ‘squiggly’, taking shape in many forms, whether it is moving to another part of the business, taking on additional in-role responsibilities or developing new skills,” she said.
“We want to empower our people to take control of their career, sharing inspiring stories of colleagues who’ve achieved this. We found talented people from across the business with ‘squiggly’ career paths and inspiring stories to share their messages globally.”
The London-listed fund group is hoping the campaign will stimulate progression beyond the next move “up” in the team, highlighting additional opportunities through adjacent moves and through reskilling.
Holden said it was important for colleagues to recognise their strengths and aligning those to business opportunities which emerge.
“It’s compelling that we work in a firm that has so much opportunity that you can shape your career around your strengths and ambitions,” Holden said.
“We’re currently producing four more videos from the perspective of a good manager who nurtures talent, to highlight that it shouldn’t be difficult to have career conversations and for managers to see themselves as career coaches, helping employees to identify aspirations and new skills they want to grow and to help them find those opportunities.”
