Santander has extended its sponsorship of London’s cycle hire scheme for a further seven years, building on its 10-year partnership with Transport for London (TfL).
With the renewal until 2032, Santander plans to improve its cycle hire scheme through a multimillion-pound investment into the scheme.
This will include improvements to the fleet, on-street infrastructure and a new and improved Santander Cycles app, making it quicker and easier for customers to hire bikes.
The next phase of investment will see the scheme expand further, with new docking stations opening in Agar Grove (Camden), Brockwell Lido (Brixton), City Island, and Hackney. Additional locations are planned for Harrow Road in Westminster and Queen Street in the City of London.
TfL said the investment would ensure the cycle hire network continues to support accessibility, sustainability, and healthier travel in the capital.
For Santander, the renewal reinforces its brand visibility across London and underlines its long-term commitment to sustainability and community partnerships.
The announcement extends a relationship that has become one of London’s most recognisable brand partnerships. Since taking over sponsorship in 2015, Santander and TfL have invested heavily in the scheme, expanding its reach and modernising its offer.
The fleet now includes more than 2,000 e-bikes alongside 10,000 classic bikes and over 800 docking stations across central and inner London.
Usage also continues to grow. Since the introduction of e-bikes in 2022, riders have made more than 2.8 million hires. Overall, the scheme has recorded over 106 million hires since Santander’s involvement began.
