Railpen, the pension manager for more than 350,000 railway scheme members, has launched a new campaign to mark the 200th anniversary of the modern railway.
The #BeyondTheTracks200 initiative commemorates the opening of the Darlington & Stockton Railway on 27 September 1825, which marked a milestone that transformed transport in the UK and connected communities.
To mark the milestone, #BeyondTheTracks200 will launch a microsite and content series showcasing how the railway community has driven innovation and shaped social infrastructure that still benefits UK society today.
The blogs will also spotlight the work of Railpen’s partner charities over the past 20 years, including Railway Benefit Fund, Railway Children, Railway Mission and Railway Housing Association.
In addition, Railpen and its campaign partners are also inviting railway employers to share how they’ve supported communities and society using the hashtag #BeyondTheTracks200.
While celebrating the railway’s history and its impact today, the campaign also looks to the future. It highlights how people across the sector are building a sustainable, inclusive future by securing financial futures, supporting workers’ health and wellbeing and creating opportunities for all.
