Royal London has strengthened its commitment to women’s rugby with a £3 million investment in The British & Irish Lions Women’s Team.
This significant funding will support player and coach development across all four Home Unions’ women’s programmes, helping to create new opportunities and build the foundations for the inaugural Lions Women’s Team.
As founding partner, Royal London is backing the first-ever Lions Women’s Team, which is set to make history with a tour to New Zealand in 2027.
Royal London’s support began in 2021 when it partnered with The British & Irish Lions to fund a feasibility study exploring the creation of a women’s team. The study’s positive outcome paved the way for the team’s establishment.
Royal London will also serve as the front-of-jersey sponsor for the official Lions Women’s Team kit.
Royal London’s investment in the partnership goes beyond this latest commitment. It previously launched the ‘Championing Women and Girls Rugby Award,’ which awards £10,000 grants each year to four grassroots clubs—one from each Union. These grants are designed to recognise and support exceptional efforts by local clubs to promote and develop women’s and girls’ rugby.
