American Express has expanded its sports sponsorship portfolio through a multi-year global partnership with the National Football League (NFL), becoming the league’s payments partner from the 2026 season.
Elizabeth Rutledge, CMO of American Express, noted that sports are central to American Express’ legacy and its portfolio of over 50 includes some of the most popular leagues, team and events, including the NBA. Therefore, the new partnership with the NFL is a clear, strategic next step.
“Partnering with the NFL is a natural extension for us and our commitment to delivering meaningful perks, exclusive access and elevated experiences,” she said.
She added that throughout all of American Express’ partnerships, the goal is to bring card members closer to the games they love.
Therefore, as part of the agreement, the partnership will offer ticket access and perks to American Express card members and football fans at select events.
At key tentpole moments, including the NFL Draft and the Super Bowl, card members will also gain access to on-site activations, alongside special offers and promotions rolled out across other NFL events throughout the year.
For example, at the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, American Express will pop up with an open-to-all fan experience.
“Our card members are football fans and we’re proud to deepen that connection in ways that add even greater value to American Express membership,” Rutledge said.
