Bank of Scotland has unveiled a limited-edition £20 banknote celebrating Scottish football hero Scott McTominay and Scotland’s return to the top tier of international football.
The collector-style note features artwork inspired by McTominay’s iconic overhead kick, set against the backdrop of the Forth Bridge, combining traditional Scottish banknote design with one of the nation’s most memorable modern sporting moments.
Only 100 of the special edition notes have been produced, with fans able to secure one through a series of auctions, prize draws and interactive pop-up “vault” experiences in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Bank of Scotland said proceeds from the campaign will support Crisis Scotland, the national charity working to end homelessness in Scotland by 2040.
Emma Noble, chair of the Scottish executive committee at Bank of Scotland, said the note was designed to celebrate a landmark sporting achievement while supporting an important social cause.
“Securing qualification in such dramatic fashion is a moment fans will never forget, and we wanted to mark it in a way that’s rooted in Scottish identity,” she said.
“Scott’s overhead kick is already regarded as one of the nation’s greatest ever goals. It’s been a privilege to work with him to bring it to life in such a unique way, and we’re grateful for his support in helping raise funds for Crisis.”
McTominay described the collaboration as “incredibly special”.
“Moments like that belong to everyone who follows the team, so seeing my goal featured on a Scottish banknote feels incredibly special,” he said.
“Being able to work with Bank of Scotland to turn it into something that also supports Crisis and the work they do to tackle homelessness makes me even more proud.”
Fans can enter an online auction featuring a selection of the notes and a pair of signed McTominay boots, with bidding open until 26 June. A public prize draw offering 25 notes is also running, with a suggested £10 donation to Crisis Scotland.
In addition, two one-day-only pop-up vaults will appear at Glasgow Queen Street Station on 30 May and Edinburgh’s St James Quarter on 17 June, where supporters will have the chance to crack a code to win one of the notes.
