WTW has partnered with WSL Football in a new multi-year deal that will see the global advisory, broking and solutions company become the official insurance partner of the Barclays Women’s Super League (WSL) and WSL2.
The partnership will focus on supporting the continued professionalisation and growth of the women’s game, with WTW bringing its expertise in risk, insurance and resilience to players, clubs and the wider football ecosystem.
A key element of the collaboration will be exploring the development of an insurance solution specifically designed for players at WSL and WSL2 clubs.
The proposed solution aims to address some of the different health considerations and risk exposures faced by female footballers, while providing greater financial protection for players in the event of injury or illness.
For clubs, tailored insurance could also help protect their investment in players as the women’s game continues to grow in value and professionalism.
WTW and WSL Football will work with clubs across both leagues to explore solutions designed to better support and protect female athletes throughout their careers.
Zarah Al-Kudcy, chief revenue officer at WSL Football, said the partnership would help strengthen the infrastructure supporting players and clubs as the game develops.
“Ensuring we have the right protection and support in place for players during their careers and for clubs is an important part of building a truly professional and sustainable game,” she said.
Carl Hess, CEO of WTW, added that the partnership would allow the company to bring its risk, insurance and advisory capabilities to women’s football.
“Our focus is on enabling players, clubs and leagues to thrive with confidence as the women’s game continues its rapid ascent on the world stage,” he said.
