Financial services marketers must move beyond AI adoption to scalable implementation while maintaining compliance, accuracy and customer trust, according to new research from Jasper.
The company’s 2026 State of AI in Marketing report, based on a survey of 1,400 marketers across industries, found that AI adoption had reached 91%, up from 63% in 2025. However, the findings highlight ongoing challenges around governance, output quality and demonstrating return on investment.
Financial services organisations entered 2026 with comparatively advanced AI capabilities. Jasper’s 2025 research found that 43% of financial services respondents rated their AI capabilities as advanced or very advanced, compared with 29% in the technology sector.
The latest findings suggest that the focus is now shifting towards integrating AI into everyday marketing operations while maintaining the controls required in a regulated industry.
Jasper identified brand, legal and compliance reviews as the leading challenge to scaling AI across marketing teams, followed by output quality and data privacy concerns.
These challenges are particularly significant for financial institutions, where marketing materials must meet strict standards for accuracy, disclosure and regulatory compliance. AI-generated content that relies on outdated product information or makes unsupported claims can create reputational and regulatory risks.
The report also highlighted difficulties in measuring AI’s commercial impact. The proportion of marketers able to demonstrate AI return on investment fell from 49% in 2025 to 41% in 2026. Among those able to measure returns, however, 60% reported an ROI of two to three times or higher.
The findings point to the need for measurement frameworks that connect AI-driven activities with campaign performance, customer engagement and operational efficiency, rather than relying solely on productivity gains.
Jasper also highlighted the potential of AI agents to take on defined areas of marketing execution, including researching customer questions, preparing content using approved product information and adapting campaign materials for different channels.
For financial services organisations, this approach requires clear operating boundaries, trusted business information and established approval processes to ensure human oversight remains in place where necessary.
The report identifies embedded governance, clear accountability and marketing-specific workflows as important foundations for more advanced AI marketing operations.
As financial institutions expand their use of AI, the research suggests that combining operational efficiency with robust governance and measurable business outcomes will be central to scaling the technology successfully.
