Schroders has signed a three-year deal to sponsor the Financial Times’ Business Book of the Year Award.
In a press statement, Schroders confirmed it had become the third partner for the award since it launched. Previous sponsors have included Goldman Sachs and McKinsey.
“We’re proud to support a prize which showcases the sharpest and most visionary thinking in the fields of business, economics, environment and society,” said Peter Harrison, group chief executive of Schroders.
“The authors and their books inevitably grapple with many of the world’s biggest challenges — something which is fundamental also to our role in looking after clients’ money.”
The panel of judges for the 2023 prize will be chaired by Financial Times editor Roula Khalaf and joined by Harrison and Nikkei’s managing director for global business, Daisuke Arakawa.
Head judge, Khalaf, added that it has been a “bumper year” for business books.
The panel now have until September to compile a shortlist of their favourites. Each shortlisted title will receive £10,000, with £30,000 going to the winner.
The other judges for this year’s prize are Mimi Alemayehou, founder and managing partner, Semai Ventures; Mitchell Baker, chief executive of Mozilla Corporation; Herminia Ibarra, professor of organisational behaviour at London Business School; James Kondo, chair, International House of Japan; Randall Kroszner, professor of economics at University of Chicago Booth School of Business; and Shriti Vadera, chair of Prudential and the Royal Shakespeare Company.
