Bank of Kigali (BK), Rwanda’s largest commercial bank, has signed a five-year sponsorship deal with Rwandan football club Rayon Sports.
The sponsorship makes BK the official banking and principal sponsor of Rayon, with logo placement on shirts for both men’s and women’s teams.
BK has launched a range of “Gikundiro” banking products for Rayon Sports supporters – current accounts, savings accounts, business accounts and branded debit cards.
Purchases made on the Gikundiro Card generate a direct financial contribution to the club, fans fund Rayon Sport through everyday banking transactions.
This comes as part of BK’s broader “Banki ya Ruhago” (Bank for Football) campaign, positioning BK as Rwanda’s bank of football.
BK already holds the title sponsorship of the Rwanda Premier League (now the BK Pro League), making this part of a serious sport-led marketing strategy.
Desiré Rumanyika, Chief Digital and Retail Officer at Bank of Kigali, said that the partnership is intended to support the “long-term, sustainable development of Rayon Sports”, while creating new experiences for supporters and contributing to the growth of Rwanda’s football ecosystem.
African banks are increasingly using sport sponsorship to drive retail banking product adoption, with fan engagement mechanics that link everyday transactions directly to club revenue becoming a key commercial differentiator in emerging markets.
