AIG has strengthened its global marketing presence by joining Salford City as a minority equity investor and long-term commercial partner.
Through the partnership, AIG’s investment will help drive key initiatives across the club’s strategic roadmap, from infrastructure upgrades at Peninsula Stadium to enhanced digital fan engagement.
It will also back expanded community programs across Greater Manchester, the home of the club, which is known as “the Ammies.”
Peter Zaffino, chairman & CEO of AIG, said: “AIG is proud to invest in Salford City FC and to support the club’s multi-year strategic roadmap that will enhance the experience for players, partners and fans around the world.”
The deal makes AIG the first Fortune 500 company to acquire an ownership stake in a League Two English Football League club. It also highlights the growing momentum surrounding the club following the announcement of its new ownership group earlier this year, which includes David Beckham and Gary Neville.
The partnership builds on AIG’s commitment to support professional athletes, including its title sponsorship of the AIG Women’s Open, a major championship in women’s golf.
