Bank of America is to become the first ever global bank sponsor of the FIFA World Cup.
In a statement released on Thursday (15 August), the bank said it will work with FIFA to support the growth of the global game and the tournament’s impact on football fans of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
The deal, which runs until 2026, complements the company’s global and local market strategies, the bank said. It will supplement the sponsorship with ongoing community outreach, youth programming, and financial education initiatives.
“Football connects the world like no other sport,” said Brian Moynihan, chair and CEO of Bank of America.
“FIFA World Cup 26 is a tremendous opportunity to celebrate the pursuit of excellence and how we deliver for our clients, teammates and the communities we serve across the US and around the world.”
The 2026 event will feature 104 matches with 48 teams from around the world across 16 host cities in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
Gianni Infantino, FIFA president, added: “Bank of America’s commitment to community engagement both domestically and globally aligns with our goals for the tournament and beyond, while their support of FIFA on an international basis is a major milestone for our organisation as we continue to serve our game for the benefit of the entire world.”
Bank of America serves clients through operations across the US and in more than 35 countries.
