Parents for Future UK has enlisted a cast of rising UK comedy talent for a sketch aimed at highlighting climate greenwashing in the banking sector.
The grassroots climate organisation has released ‘Bank Heist – Goes Wrong’, a short comedy sketch featuring a team of up-and-coming British comedians who play a group of would-be criminals attempting to rob a “generic bank”.
The plan, however, quickly unravels when the group discovers the bank is still investing in fossil fuel companies. Realising their target is profiting from oil and gas through its investment activity, the crew abruptly aborts the robbery, turning the premise into a satirical take on climate accountability in finance. The sketch also ends with a twist as police arrive, adding an extra punchline to the finale.
Charlotte Howell, co-director of Parents for Future UK said: “Nothing says ‘we care about the climate’ quite like abandoning a crime spree because the bank’s portfolio is still investing in Big Oil. Sounds absurd, but it’s tragically close to reality,
“We wanted to create something that makes people laugh while quietly questioning the ethics of their bank. Laughter served with a demand for change.”
The video has been released on Instagram and YouTube, aiming to reach wider audiences through social platforms and make climate messaging more accessible and shareable.
The project, which is supported by Triodos Bank UK, marks the latest campaign from Parents for Future UK as it continues to explore unconventional ways of communicating climate issues. It follows previous heat pump-themed sketches and a television advertising campaign.
By collaborating with Warming Up Comedy, Turtle Canyon Comedy and a range of emerging comedic talent, the organisation says it aims to make conversations around climate action more accessible, engaging and shareable, particularly for audiences less likely to respond to traditional campaigning.
