Credit One Bank has revived its Credit Wreckers characters for a Halloween-themed advertising campaign designed to educate consumers about behaviours that can damage their credit scores.
Created with advertising agency Deutsch, the latest instalment of the bank’s Credit Scaries campaign draws on classic horror movie tropes, placing a group of anthropomorphised credit cards in a cabin-in-the-woods setting.
The campaign features characters representing common credit pitfalls, including Cancelina, who symbolises cancelling credit cards, Max Out, who represents maxing out credit limits, and One Track Jack, who warns against relying on just one form of credit.
A fourth character, Miss Payment, represents the consequences of missing monthly repayments.
The horror-inspired creative uses exaggerated scenes and seasonal storytelling to make financial education more accessible and engaging for consumers.
Amber Greenwalt, senior vice-president of brand and advertising at Credit One Bank, said the campaign was designed to make conversations about credit more approachable through content that is educational, engaging and relatable.
She added that Halloween provided an opportunity to give the Credit Wreckers a culturally relevant twist, highlighting how damaging credit behaviours could have consequences more frightening than traditional Halloween scares.
The campaign also reinforces the bank’s message that consumers can improve their financial knowledge and make better credit decisions with the right tools and education.
