Santander International had its branding across the Isle of Man this weekend as its sponsorship of the UCI Gran Fondo cycle event took place in glorious conditions.
The Gran Fondo Isle of Man took place on 27 and 28 July 2024. The sportive is a 137km mass cycling event and doubles as a qualification round for the UCI Gran Fondo World Series.
Susan Clark, chief marketing officer for Santander International, described the festival as a “fabulous weekend” and noted the exceptional weather.
“Events like these don’t just happen. ‘Chapeau’ to everyone involved in delivering another brilliant weekend of cycling to the local community,” she said.
Santander International has sponsored the event for the past three years. It supports one of the company’s corporate goals of improving the wellbeing of customers and wider stakeholders of the business.
The international arm of the banking group has historically placed sports sponsorship at the core of its marketing, having previously sponsored British and Irish Lions rugby, Isle of Man Netball, the Jersey Netball Association and the Peel Town Golf Cup.
This year’s event included an time trial on Saturday (27 July), where more than 100 riders took on a closed roads ascent of the Mountain section of the TT Motorcycle race circuit. The event was headquartered at Mooragh Park, where a dedicated riders’ village was built.
