Standard Chartered sponsored a special edition of the Hong Kong Marathon last weekend which allowed 11,000 runners the chance to race on the new runway at Hong Kong International Airport.
The stunt, in partnership with the Airport Authority Hong Kong was a special commemorative edition of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon to celebrate full operations of all three runways at the airport beginning.
For Standard Chartered, it represents a continuation of the bank’s long-established sponsorship of global road races which include the Singapore Marathon, the Nairobi Marathon, the Dubai Marathon, the annual Hong Kong Marathon and the Great City Race in London.
The bank is sponsoring the regular edition of the Hong Kong marathon in February – the largest participatory sporting event in Hong Kong with around 74,000 runners. It is a race it has backed since 1997.
“Standard Chartered has been the title sponsor of the Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon for more than two decades. Throughout the years, we have worked closely with the Hong Kong, China Association of Athletics Affiliates to provide an arena for runners to perform at their best,” a company spokesperson said in a statement.
