Payments fintech Stripe is to replace BT as the official sponsor of the Irish Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition (YSTE).
The annual educational science competition – which is now in its 60th year – had been sponsored by the telecoms giant for the past 25 years.
In a media statement, the company’s co-founder, Patrick Collison, said the exhibition is “a special institution” for him and his younger brother, John, who is Stripe’s other co-founder.
“It amplified our curiosity and reinforced our confidence at a critical juncture. We’re honoured that Stripe has been selected to help preserve it for generations to come.”
Eileen O’Mara, chief revenue officer at Stripe, added: “It’s very rare to find a youth science event that captures the imagination of a whole country.
“YSTE propels many students into a lifelong career in STEM, and strengthens Ireland’s science and technology ecosystem. We look forward to working with the YSTE team and Board to continue inspiring young people with the power of science.”
The online entry system for the forthcoming Exhibition is now open, with the event taking place from 7 – 10 January 2026.
The YSTE exhibition is a staple in the academic, scientific and technological calendar every year, and attracts on average over 40,000 visitors.
It is one of the biggest events of its kind both in Europe and worldwide.
The winners of the YSTE advance to participate in prestigious international events such as the European Union Contest for Young Scientists.
