Swiss Re has showcased a replica of the Iron Ore boat that crossed the Pacific for mental health charities in the gardens of this year’s Monte Carlo Rendez-Vous de Septembre.
The vessel was used by a team of reinsurance executives from Swiss Re and Convex in June to take on the “World’s Toughest Row,” travelling 2,800 miles across the Pacific Ocean.
Dominic Mellor, VP of Communications, said the Pacific Discovery crew are aiming to raise £100,000 to donate to the mental health charity Mind.
“Our tagline here in Monte Carlo is ‘partnering for progress.’
“We want to partner with our clients and make progress within the industry by working together.
“What the Pacific Discovery team that rowed the ocean really wants to do is hand on the baton and ask ‘who’s up for the next challenge?’ – they’re now looking for the next industry team to come out and row for mental health,” said Mellor.
“We’ve had lots of people looking at the boat, opening up the hatches and seeing what conditions would have been like. People are more than welcome to have a look.”
Swiss Re is handing out wristbands to all clients entering the gardens at the conference and will donate 25 francs on behalf of each wristband.
The Rendez-Vous de Septembre is one of the most prominent conferences within the (re)insurance industry.
Swiss Re is hosting an in-person and online session on 10 October, World Mental Health Day, to discuss the success of the Pacific Discovery mission and raise money for Mind.
