South African banking platform, TymeBank, has pledged to donate a portion of each customer’s transaction to Banyana Banyana, the country’s national women’s football team.
In celebration of the success of the team at the FIFA Women’s World Cup, TymeBank will award bonuses of R1million (£41,371) for every 10 million transactions, throughout the month of August.
“Our National Women’s Football team’s talent, passion, and determination to succeed against the odds resonates with us as a challenger bank,” said Cheslyn Jacobs, chief commercial adviser at TymeBank.
“We applaud them for their outstanding performance at this year’s tournament – in the hearts and minds of millions of South Africans, they are truly winners who have made us all proud.”
TymeBank are encouraging customers to make transactions using their TymeBank account to support the team.
“This is an opportunity for the bank to join forces with customers in acknowledging this phenomenal team, who we believe deserve to be fairly compensated.”
Advertising company EVOLV Outdoor has supported TymeBank’s initiative, donating “free billboard space to TymeBank in order to help spread the message of this initiative to our customers.”
The initiative follows a now-resolved gender pay gap dispute between the Banyana Banyana team and their national association.
Launched in 2019, TymeBank is a digital retail bank promising “simplicity, transparency and affordability” to over seven million customers.
